England v India – 1st Test – Analysis of English performance
England were victorious against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Monday, July 25, 2011.
There were a lot of positives for the hosts in the match, as the players performed consistently well throughout the five days of play. There were a few mistakes made by some players, but not which could cost the team by much.
In comparison to India, the Poms were better in all three departments of the game. However, they will be eying to rectify a few things in the upcoming matches, as the series is going to get tougher.
England’s openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 didn’t have a big part to play in their team’s win at Lord’s. The pair have been doing a fabulous job over the past few months and will be looking forward to a strong show in the remaining games of the series.
Cook only managed 12 and 1 in both his innings whereas his opening partner did get a couple of starts, as he collected 22 and 32 in his outings.
Although England had to bat first in dicey conditions, the team coped with the pressure brilliantly. Despite losing both openers early, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 took the game away from the number one Test team in the world.
The pair proved to be the strength of their side, playing solid knocks in the match. Pietersen top scored the match with a spectacular 202 runs in the first innings. He missed-out on the second outing, but had done the damage earlier.
Trott proved to be as solid as ever and scored a crucial 70 runs in the first innings. The ball was doing quite a few tricks, but the dependable right-handed batsman was up to the task and didn’t give his wicket away easily. He failed to convert his start
of 22 runs in the second innings, but had a good game overall.
Further down the order, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032 were a touch disappointing in the match. They were unable to make a significant impression, but will be eager to do well in the forthcoming Test at Nottingham, on Friday the 29th.
When http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918 was one of the key performers in the team.
England’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984 reminds everyone of that era, as he has been the Gilchrist for the Poms. The keeper batsman scored 71 and an unbeaten 103 in both his respective outings.
Prior’s glove-work has also been magnificent, as he seldom misses a chance. He did a terrific all-round job for the hosts in the first match of the series and will be a big problem for the Men in Blue in the remainder games.
A team might have some of the best batsmen in the world, but 20 wickets are required to win a Test match. This makes the importance of the bowlers significant. Luckily for the English side, they have few of the best bowlers in the business, who can perform
well against any opposition.
Pacers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501, who chipped in with one wicket in each innings on a pitch, which
had very little assistance for the spinners.
Overall it was a wonderful team work by the British players, but they did miss a couple of catches in the Indian second innings. Apart from that, it was a flawless performance by the team, which is likely to snatch the number one spot from India at the end
of the ongoing Test series.
