England v India 2011: Wasim Akram cites Virender Sehwag’s absence as huge advantage for England – Cricket News Update
Pakistan's legendary fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739, from the first two Tests of the upcoming high-voltage series will work as an additional advantage for England.
Due to a shoulder injury, Sehwag is likely to miss half of the series, set to begin with the Lord’s Test from July 21, 2011. Although, the blazing opener is among the 17-member-squad, he will not be available for the final selection since he has not yet
recovered completely from the injury.
Sehwag left his Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Delhi Daredevils, in the midst of the competition, going to England for his shoulder surgery. Although, the 32-year-old batsman earlier claimed to get full fitness before the England tour, the recent medical
reports suggested that he will have to wait a little more to be match-fit.
Wasim, who will be following the series as a commentator, believes that even though the Indian side has enhanced its batting strength by including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447, the team will surely miss Sehwag at the top-order.
"The absence of an explosive batsman like Sehwag at top of the order is a disadvantage for Team India going into this http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Griffith-c919 series. I don't think there is any other impact player like him in world cricket currently," said Wasim.
The former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 skipper further referred to Sehwag and Gambhir as a great opening pair for India.
Acknowledging the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780-born batsman as perfect player for the seaming conditions in England, Wasim explained that the omission of Sehwag might also affect the game of Gambhir since they have a very good understanding in Test cricket.
Meanwhile, the great pacer appreciated the Board of Control of Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s (BCCI) decision to include Sehwag in the squad despite his injury.
"He may not play the first two matches but the fact is Sehwag will still get a chance to acclimatise himself to the conditions in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 with some useful practice during the nets sessions. I therefore think this is a very smart move by the Indian selectors,"
shared the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sultan-c91758 of Swing.
