England v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 - 2nd ODI - Men in Blue set a huge total for Poms to chase - First Innings Recap

India, after being thrashed in Tests, looks to make early inroads in the ODI series as they set a huge total for England to chase.
Batting first the visitors posted 187 runs in second ODI being played at The Rose Bowl, Southampton, thanks to a glittering knock of 54 runs from opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajinkya-Rahane-c970.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229 contributed a vital 32.
Earlier in the day heavy showers delayed the start and forced the match to be reduced to 23 overs. English captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 won the toss and after inspecting the pitch decided that he will let his bowlers have a go first,
as according to the Poms skipper the outfield was soggy which will make boundaries hard to come by.
Both teams made a couple of changes, England’s ace spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032, who has been ruled out of the remaining
NatWest series. India, on the other hand, drafted in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RG-Sharma-c2309.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Parthiv-Patel-c2159 showed that he meant business when the over-looked batsman smashed a boundary on the second ball that he faced.
That shot set the tune for rest of the innings as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 and Rahane charged at English bowlers and scored at nearly 10 runs per over in first three overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 brought an end to their partnership in fourth over when Patel got an edge that flew to the wicket-keeper Craig Kieswetter’s gloves. Patel scaled 28 runs from 18 deliveries.
Dravid came out to bat at number three, and along with Rahane, put up 79 runs for the second wicket, which was the highest partnership from the Indian side.
Dravid was the next man to go down, Swann picked up his prized wicket in 15th over at that time India were 109 for the loss of two wickets.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737, India’s number four had little time to settle and started rotating strike from the word go. However, his innings did not last long as Swann was once again in the wickets column. Kohli could only manage 9 runs from
same number of deliveries.
Raina looked good from the time he came out to bat as the batsman was keener in dealing in boundaries. With limited number of overs left at their disposal Indian batsmen started slogging and Rahane lost his wicket in the process.
The batsman failed to get the required elevation as a result was caught by Swann of his own bowling.
Indians took the batting powerplay in 20th over and made full use of it by nothing 16 runs in that over. The story was same in next couple of overs, however, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Bresnan-c2711 pulled things back in the final over, in which
the Men in Blue could only muster 5 runs and lost three wickets in the process. India set a total of 187 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
