http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750: 4th and final Test, Day 1, Session 1 – 15-over report
Team England scored 48 runs in the 15 overs of their first innings in first session on Day 1 of their 4th and final npower Test against India at Kennington Oval, London today, August 18.
Winning the toss, the English skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964, elected to bat first with a view to capitalise the batting-friendly condition of the pitch. Before the start of the play, he was quoted as saying, “It looks like a good wicket to bat on, and I reckon
it is dry underneath.” However, the Indians too wished to bat first.
Strauss and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, the Test and ODI captains of Team England, opened the innings with great confidence. Cook, who scored 294 runs in an innings of the 3rd Test at Edgbaston, seemed to be in good form this time too.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RP-Singh-c87028 came to deliver the first over with the new ball. Singh threw the opening delivery with 124.7 kph speed. His line and length seemed to be perfect. He conceded 4 runs in the over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/I-Sharma-c1566, the young Indian pacer, shared the new ball. He gave away two runs in the over.
On the fifth ball of the 3rd over, Cook hit a sterling boundary. This over of Singh gave 5 runs to the English.
The fourth over of the innings also added four runs in the innings of the home team. Thus Cook and Strauss advanced their innings convincingly with an eye on a big total.
Sreesanth, the pacer who was recalled to the team as a substitute of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379 in the 2nd Test, came to deliver the 10th over. Strauss hit a full, straight and easy four on the last ball of this over.
On the 5th delivery of the 11th over, Cook lashed another boundary. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Sreesanth-c2398’s next over also proved to be costly for India as Strauss moved forward and hit a four in the same direction on the fifth ball of the 12th over.
The fast bowler’s second delivery of the 14th over was also hit out of the boundary by Cook.
Thus, at the end of the 15th over of their innings, the Poms had 48 runs for no loss. Their run rate was 3.20 per over. Strauss had made 24 and Cook was batting on 21 runs. Both the batsmen had played 45 balls and lashed 3 fours each.
In the bowling line-up of India, both Singh and Sreesanth had conceded 19 runs each in 7 and 3 overs respectively while Sharma had given away 7 runs in 5 overs.
