http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 - Batsmen let India down – Part One
India is on the verge of facing one of the most disastrous defeats in its history, against England in the on-going four-match Test series.
The Men in Blue came in to the series as the number one ranked Test team of the world and with a hope of doing well against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 and his men. However, the Indian dreams have been shattered, to say the least.
They have already been dethroned from the top position of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Test Rankings, with one Test still to be played and the world champions in the 50-over format are in a huge danger of being whitewashed in the series.
This is has been one of the most awaited Test series of recent times after Ashes, as the cricket fans expected India to give a very tough time to England. However, this series has turned out to be an anti-climax and the home team has looked
far superior in all the departments of the game.
India has one of the weakest bowling attacks amongst the Test playing nations and as expected, its bowling has struggled against the Poms, but the real disappointment has been the performance of the Indian batting lineup, which failed
to counter the pace and movement of the English fast bowlers.
The batting lineup, which is considered as one of the best in the business, might not have been able to win the series for India, but the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772 were expected to have given a tough time to
the English bowlers and they should have made sure that India does not face such a humiliation.
India’s chief selector, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Krishnamachari-Srikkanth-c71750, has also blamed the batsmen for not performing up to the mark. However, he defended his men and said that the same players have been performing exceptionally in past and one can hope to see them
bounce back in future as well.
Srikkanth said, "It is a fact that our top five batsmen have not clicked in the series so far. But the same bunch of cricketers have been doing well during the last couple of years. The same combination had defeated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in South
Africa. It our bad luck that in this particular tour nothing has clicked for us."
The chief selector also insisted that it is time for India to rebuild its team in Test cricket and feels that some of the young players should be given an opportunity to prove their worth.
"We have to start the process all over again without complaining. We have to try our various combinations to get the best team like we did before the World Cup. We even dropped http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yuvraj-Singh-c98364, who came back strongly into the ODI team and
left a huge impact on the tournament,” former batsman added.
