England gained a healthy first innings lead of 188 runs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the first of the four-match Test series, at the Lord’s, London in England on the third day’s play on Saturday, July 23, 2011.
The Poms would have been extremely pleased with their bowling performance in the first innings. They could have restricted India to a lesser total tough, as a couple of chances were missed in the slip cordon.
However, England had a very good lead and would have been eying to capitalise on it. The team didn’t get off to an ideal start to their second innings though, as the top-six batsmen failed to make a significant impression.

However, wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032 put together 45 runs for the sixth-wicket partnership, guiding their team out of some trouble. The latter was unable to make most of the start he got to his innings, getting out for 19.
The hosts were six down for 107 runs at that stage of the innings and India looked in good control. However, Prior and Broad batted superbly, guiding their team to safety. The pair put together an unbeaten 162 runs for the seventh-wicket partnership.
The wicketkeeper batsman finished with 103 runs, whereas Broad collected 74 crucial runs for his side. The innings was declared at 269/6, setting a target of 458 for India.
Sharma was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors in the innings, picking up four wickets for his side.
