England v India: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Stokes-c1142 in English outfit - Cricket News Update
Geoff Cook, the head coach of Durham County Cricket Club, rates England’s newbie, Ben Stokes, very highly and was pleased to see the Durham boy earn a place in the English outfits.
Cook believes that the addition of the 20-year-old cricketer will strengthen English squad as Stokes has immense talent and has a lot to offer to the Poms in the long run.
Expressing his delight over Stokes' inclusion, Cook said, “Of course I'm pleased. A county's aim is to produce cricketers who are good enough to improve the England team. He is an extremely talented cricketer in all attributes
of the game. Fielding and batting are his strong suits, but I'm sure as he bowls a bit more that will progress as well.”
Stokes, who plays as an all-rounder in domestic competitions, has an impressive batting average of 43.64 from 28 first-class matches and is pretty handy with the ball as well, grabbing 28 wickets at an average of 37.35.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 coach conceded that the 20-year-old will soon make way into the England’s Test squad, as there is a place for an all-rounder.
“There is a spot for an all-rounder to achieve some balance. In tests they are currently playing four bowlers and six batsmen. If one of the batsmen was able to bowl, I'm sure the selectors would jump at the chance. I hope that
he has got an opportunity to do just that over the next year or two,” said Cook.
Stokes has played in three ODI’s, but the left-handed batsman is yet to show-off his skills at the International level. In his debut match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751, Stokes managed a mere 3 runs and is yet to face the Indians, despite being
part of the team in first two ODIs.
Cook added that Stokes has not yet had a chance to show his mettle, given the current performance of the English team; however, when a chance comes, he is sure to take it with both hands.
The third ODI of the series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and England will be played at Kennington Oval, London on Friday, September 9.
