England v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753: Second innings report - ICC World Cup 2011
At the lunch break, the whole cricketing world was expecting an upset as Netherlands posted a huge score of 292 runs on the baord against England in a group ‘B’ fixture of the ICC World Cup 2011, but Andrew Strauss led the way for his team as they chased
down the total in the 49th over of the innings for the loss of just four wickets.
England was off to a brilliant start through Strauss and Pietersen who has been elevated to open the innings for his country in the World Cup. Both of them had scored 105 runs before Pietersen was caught at short cover off the bowling of the left arm spinner
Pieter Seelaar. Pietersen’s departure did not stop Strauss to keep the hopes alive for the English team as he found an able partner in shape of Jonathan Trott, who has been in splendind touch of late.
The icing on the cake was put by Paul Collingwood and Ravi Bopara as they saw their team home with eight balls to spare.
Strauss remained the top scorer for England as he scored 88 runs off just 83 balls with the help of nine boundaries. Trott used 65 balls for his 62 and struck 4 fours in his knock. Pietersen, Bell, Collingwood and Bopara also scored 30s to help their team
avoid one of the biggest upsets of the history of World Cup cricket.
Centurion Ryan ten Doeschate showed his skills with the ball as well and picked up a couple of cheap wickets for the Dutch. Mudassar Bukhari and Pieter Seelaar claimed a wicket each.
Doeschate was named as the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance even though he finshed in the loosing side.
The Dutch could not pull off an upset but they should still be very happy with their performance as they played a close game with one of the best teams of the world. On the other hand, Strauss and company would have to do a lot of work with their bowling
and fielding before the crunch match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, if they are to give the hosts a tough time.
