With England’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Twenty20 2012
Super Eights match currently being played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, today on September 29.
Both teams went into the match eager to secure a win after having suffered previous defeats in the current stage of the tournament – New Zealand at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
In order to avoid another defeat, England went into the match with two changes in their line-up – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samit-Patel-c2426 and Jade Dernbach, both of whom had proved particularly expensive in the previous match.

New Zealand won the toss and skipper Ross Taylor elected to bat first, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Nicol-c2331 (11) opening the innings for their side. However, Guptill was not able to apply himself at the crease for long, trapped lbw by Finn (4-0-16-3) in
the second over.
Nicol was joined at the crease by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LJ-Wright-c1841 in the 4th over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501 (4-0-20-1). Williamson’s dismissal in the 12th
over, off Briggs (4-0-36-1), paved the way for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849 (22) and Franklin (50) to step up to the crease, and the two joined forces for a 40-run stand for the 5th wicket – the highest on their side.
Their partnership got the team total up to 107, after which Finn completed his 3-wicket haul with Taylor’s dismissal in the 17th over. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NL-McCullum-c2120 made a valiant attempt to keep the innings moving forward, and chipped in with an unbeaten contribution
of 16 runs, in addition to establishing a 39-run stand with Franklin.
However, Franklin was run out directly after completing his half-century and attempting to come back for a second, and by the end of 20 overs, with six wickets down, and Nathan McCullum and Bracewell (2*) at the crease, New Zealand posted a final total of
148.
