England v Pakistan – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Twenty20 Warm-up Matches – Match Recap – England win by 15 runs
Courtesy an intense bowling attack led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danny-Briggs-c1315 and Jade Dernbach, England managed to claim a 15-run win over Pakistan during their ICC World Twenty20 2012 warm-up match, played at the P Sara Oval in Colombo today on September 19.
England won the toss and elected to bat first – however, it proved to be a poor day for batting all around, as the Poms succumbed, all out, at 111 by the final over in the low-scoring game, after a devastating assault from Pakistan’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 (4-0-14-4),
supported by Yasir Arafat (2.3-0-21-2) and Raza Hasan (4-0-16-2).
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Raza-Hasan-c84407 sent Hales back to the pavilion in the 3rd over, and followed it up with the wicket
of Kieswetter in the 5th over, leaving England at 24 for 2.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamran-Akmal-c70122 off Saeed
Ajmal in the 9th over, while Jonny Bairstow’s meagre 14 runs formed part of the highest partnership of the match – a 34-run stand with Wright – after which Bairstow was bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Arafat-c98241 in the 15th over.
By this point England were at 80 for 4, and the situation worsened with the dismissal of Wright off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samit-Patel-c2426 (8), and their 22-run partnership for the 6th
wicket got the team total up to 106 before Ajmal struck his final blows.
The 19th over saw Ajmal sending Buttler, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 and Briggs (5) got the team up to 111 before both were sent packing
in the final over, with England finishing, all out, at 111, with 3 deliveries remaining.
In order to compensate for their poor batting performance, England launched an assault spearheaded by Briggs (4-1-15-3), Dernbach (4-0-14-3), and Broad (4-1-12-2), which successfully restricted Pakistan to a dismal total of 96 by the end of 20 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898 was dismissed on duck, and his dismissal set the tone for the remainder of the innings, with the
batsmen faltering in the face of the English attack.
Aside from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Razzaq-c41623 (12) remained the only other batsmen to register double-digit scores. By the end of 20 overs, with 9 wickets down, Pakistan found themselves cut off at 96, granting
England a 15-run victory.
