England v South Africa - South Africa tour of England - 2nd T20I – Live Score and Update
South Africa 77/5 (9/9 ov) v England 29/2 (4.1/9 ov) - No result
The second T20I match between hosts England and South Africa had to be abandoned due to heavy showers without a result on Monday, September 10, at Old Trafford, Manchester, with the teams spending less than 15 overs on the field.
With the game already reduced to nine overs, England chose to field first on winning the toss as they knew that the wet outfield would prevent the Proteas from reaching boundaries.
The visitors had a shocking start to their inning as on the first delivery of the match, they lost RE Levi for nil.
Hashim Amla and skipper AB de Villiers then crafted a stand of 20 runs, before England earned their second wicket of the day when JW Dernbach caught the South African skipper off Steven Finn. de Villiers scored only one run before finding his way back to the pavilion.
Amla was then joined by JA Morkel, however, this pair failed to cause any concern for England as with 37 runs on the board, Morkel was dismissed by LJ Wright on three runs.
With wickets falling at one end, Amla kept his cool and hammered the bowlers, keeping the scoreboard ticking.
Meanwhile, after the demise of Morkel, it was now time for JP Duminy to take the field and the batsman helped Amla take the score to 47 before he, after jabbing five runs, lost his wicket to Graeme Swann.
Surprisingly, JL Ontong was promoted ahead of JH Kallis, but the batsman failed to woo anyone as he lost his wicket after contributing only a run in the total score.
Amla and Kallis then stayed unbeaten on 47 and 13 runs to see their side post a decent total of 77 in nine overs.
From England, Finn was the best bowler with two wickets to his name.
England also had a shaky start to their innings, losing their first wicket with only three on the board, as C Kieswetter was dismissed by DW Steyn for one run.
AD Hales and LJ Wright were standing on 11 and 14 runs when rain forced the game to stop with England having scored 29 runs.
South Africa lead the series by 1-0, and would now be looking to end their tour by winning the third and final match on Wednesday, at Edgbaston.
