England 118/5 (11/11 ov) v South Africa 90/5 (11.0/11 ov) - England won by 28 runs
On Wednesday, September 12, England ended their summer with a victory over South Africa in the third and final match of the three-match T20 series, winning the game by 28 runs at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
JC Buttler, who smacked an unbeaten innings of 32 runs was named as the Player of the Match, while wicketkeeper/batsman C Kieswetter, who bolstered a half century in this fixture took home the Player of the Series award.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, England had a decent start to their innings with openers Kieswetter and MJ Lumb forging 20 runs together in a game that was reduced to 11 overs for both teams due to heavy showers.
Finally WD Parnell struck for the Proteas to earn the first wicket of the day by shattering Lumb’s stumps with the batsman on a tally of five.
LJ Wright was then the next man in, but he soon became J Botha’s victim as he lost his wicket on a score of six. At the time of this wicket, England were pinned on 43 runs.
EJG Morgan was also disappointing with only five runs to his name, before he hit the showers after losing his wicket to Botha.
Nonetheless, England still ended on a high as they managed to amass a staggering total of 118.
Faced with a stiff total ahead of them, the visitors had a shocking start, losing their first wicket with only nine runs on the board as opener RE Levi was clean-bowled by Tim Bresnan on one run.
While Hashim Amla and F du Plessis took the score to 34, this partnership was broken by DR Briggs, who nabbed du Plessis on a tally of eight.
With Amla doing most of the scoring, the duo of the opener and skipper AB de Villiers took the score to 51, before de Villiers was removed by Graeme Swann on two runs.
Alma was then the next to go as he perished on the last delivery of the same over, almost bringing South Africa’s run chase to a hold.
With JA Morkel unbeaten on 17 and JH Kallis on eight, the South Africans could muster 90 runs in 11 overs for the loss of five wickets.
