England v Sri Lanka 2011- Alastair Cook warns Poms about overconfidence after 1st ODI win
The English One Day International (ODI) Captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alastair-Nathan-Cook-c42852, was pleased with the performance of his team in the first match against Sri Lanka but warned his teammates about becoming over confident by winning just one match.
England won the first ODI convincingly by 110 runs on June, 28th, 2011, at Kennington Oval, London.
They were sent into bat by the Sri Lankan Captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tillakaratne-Mudiyanselage-Dilshan-c93947, and their top and middle order batting performed well in the rain interrupted match. England managed 229 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the reduced 32 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032, who scored 45 runs off 35 balls aided
with six fours.
The visitors were bowled out for 121 runs in 27 overs. The tail-ende batsman, Malinga, was the top scorer with 26 runs followed by Suraj Randiv, who scored 24 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sanath-Teran-Jayasuriya-c88467, who was playing his last International match, had a bad day as he was dismissed after scoring just two runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Clayton-Anderson-c65552 ripped through their batting and became the star performer with four wickets.
Cook appreciated the performance of his team but advised them to concentrate on the future games. He said:
"It's just a good start and we have to keep our feet on the floor. We're not in it for personal plaudits; we're in it to win games of cricket. But I thought it was an outstanding performance from all our bowlers".
Earlier http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 beat England by nine wickets in the only T20 match, which was played on June, 25th, 2011, at Bristol. Cook remains weary of the capability of the Sri Lankan team, who can bounce back, in the rest of the matches.
The victory of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 came as a team performance where every player gave his contribution and there were nearly four prominent players. Cook narrated:
"It doesn't get http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-Muchall-c1499 better than that. It's a really good start, but let's not get too carried away about how I did or the team did”.
The second ODI of the five match series will be played at Headingley, Leeds, on July, 1st, 2011, and Cook anticipates his team will carry on with the same performance.
