The English are set to take on the Sri Lankan side in the 5th and decisive fixture of the ongoing One Day International (ODI) series. The match will be staged at the Old Trafford Ground in Manchester on Saturday, July 9, 2011.
In the previous, 4th ODI game of the series, the English made a decent comeback after securing a 10-wicket triumph over the visitors.
The two teams now stand at a stalemate waiting to battle it out on Saturday.
The English hope to offer some tough time to the Lankans through their competitive batting line up. The order includes http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Jonathan-Leonard-Trott-c63890.
Alastair Cook
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Young-c98322 English captain, Alastair Cook, opens up the troubling batsmen’s list for the Sri Lankans.
Cook has so far made a considerable contribution to his team through decent batting performances in the previous three games against the visitors.
In his last match, Cook maintained an aggressive strike rate but fell 5 runs short of earning a century. While for the 3rd game of the series, the skipper delivered a career best performance of 119 runs.
With a budding cricketing career, Cook made his ODI premiere in 2006 against the Sri Lankans. The English skipper has played 30 ODI games with a total score of 1125 runs.
Craig Kieswetter
Kieswetter comes in as another youngster but an integral member of the English batting line up. The new comer made his ODI debut last year against the Bangladeshi side. He has, so far, participated in 16 ODI fixtures and has aggregated a sum of 481 runs.
As for the ongoing series against the Lankans, Kieswetter, coupled with Cook, led the English into their second victory after earning a win at the 4th ODI fixture. The player remained not out after scoring 72 runs which included Kieswetter’s second
half century of the series.
Kevin Pietersen
Pietersen is presumably one of the most experienced players on the English side. The player’s aggressive batting style would undoubtedly pose trouble for the Sri Lankan bowlers.
Pietersen is always known for bringing stability to his team’s scoring streak. During the 3rd ODI against the Sri Lankans, Pietersen’s contribution with the bat brought in a considerable increment in the run rate. Though the English lost the game,
Pietersen fell 9 runs http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 of securing a half century.
Pietersen has played 118 ODI matches and has aggregated a total of 3728 runs with an adequate strike rate of 87.18.
Jonathan Trott
Top order batsman, Trott, is another probable concern for the Lankans. He holds a decent batting profile to his name with an ability to construct productive shots. Trott is considered amongst the current top ten ODI batsmen.
The 30-year-old made his ODI debut in 2009, against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751. Though the player had a slow premier, he grew into an important member of the English squad.
Trott has played 29 One Dayers with an aggregate of 1344 runs at an impressive strike rate. Trott’s highest performance is of 137 runs.
Although Trott has not proved his true worth during the ongoing series, he stands out as another troubling batter for the Lankans.
