Kevin Pietersen, the top-order English batsman, thinks that he has reached the brink of regaining his lost momentum in the ODI format of the game, after a prolonged slump. He is confident of delivering satisfactory performance anywhere in the batting order.
Pietersen expressed these views ahead of Team England’s 4th ODI against Sri Lanka at Nottingham, on July 6. The English are in a must-win situation as the Lankans lead the 5-match series 2-1.
Pietersen said, “I feel 100% that I'm on the brink of a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Griffith-c919 score. I've felt better and better. But the way that I play, looking to score and be aggressive and take the attack to the opposition, you are going to have good days and bad days.”
He further told, “At the moment, the luck of the draw hasn't particularly helped me. I've just got to keep playing the way I play - and if the way I'm playing at the moment is anything to go by, I'm very http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arthur-Percival-Day-c45927.”
Pietersen has been in sheer recession for last three years. He scored his last ODI hundred in 2008 and last fifty in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011.
Pietersen’s batting vows let him down during the World Cup, which he left in the midst. Apparently, he was dropped due to his hernia problem but analysts painted some other picture as they argued that the batsman had pulled out of the mega campaign due to
spinner-phobia.
As the World Cup tournament was dominated by spinners on the dry pitches of the Subcontinent, Pietersen fell to left-arm spinners in all of his innings. He left the team after being moped by a spinner for the 57th time since last year.
In the intervening time between World Cup and current home series, the batsman has worked a lot to build up his batting capacity by attending extra practice sessions.
However, Pietersen still seems to be performing below expectations. In his last ODI, he scored 41 before being dismissed by the Lankan spinner, Jeevan Mendis.
Despite this gloomy picture, Pietersen still poses to be England’s top Test scorer. He is honoured to have scored 1000 in just 21 initial innings of his ODI career.
