Sri Lanka’s stand-in skipper, Kumar Sangakkara, has aimed to adopt an aggressive strategy in the third Test against England, at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rose-c86842 Bowl, starting from today, June 16, 2011.
While the tourists suffered a humiliating innings and 14-run loss in the first Test at Cardiff, the second Test at Lord’s ended as draw.
The English side is leading the series by 1-0 and it is a make-or-break situation for the islanders as they will have to win the third Test in order to level the series.
Sangakkara was recently assigned the responsibility to lead the side following the regular captain, Tillakaratne Dilshan’s exclusion from the third Test due to a broken thumb.
After leading the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011, Sangakkara stepped down from captaincy in a bid to give a chance to the new comers.
However, chance has once again put the responsibility on his shoulders at a time when the side has been going through a lean patch.
During his 96-Tests-old career, the 33-year-old batsman has led the side in 14 Tests with a winning ratio of 35.71.
Sangakkara, who was initially not ready to accept the captaincy for the third Test, urged his players to put all the off-field stresses aside and focus on the game.
The skipper termed the third Test as a great opportunity for the tourists since they can put their cricket back on the right track by winning the match comprehensively.
"The real opportunity is to tie the Test series, so the way we play has to reflect that.  Whether you lose 1-0 or 2-0 you've still lost a series, but if we scrap and perform the way we can, we have the opportunity to tie the series,” shared Sangakkara.
Furthermore, he stressed on the need of adopting attacking approach in order to give tough time to the Englishmen, who have been playing very good Test cricket for the last couple of years.
"We need to show no fear and be as positive as we can, but at the same time execute all we've spoken about properly on the field, to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Try-c94438 and help us win a Test match," added the classy left-handed batsman.
