England skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964, stood tall on the second day of the second Test against West Indies by hammering a well crafted innings of 102 runs to play a dominating role in helping his side bolster a total of 259 runs for the loss of two wickets at stumps, in response to the first innings total of 370 posted by the Windies at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
The day began with West Indies resuming their first innings from a total of 304 runs with MN Samuels and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 coming out to lead their team towards an intimidating first innings tally.
The duo exhibited impressive touch with the bat and was looking to wreak havoc on the home team, but could take the score to 340 runs before Sammy was removed by Bresnan after clobbering 106 runs.
Samuels was then the next to follow his skipper as he fell after smashing an innings of 117 runs.
With both West Indies batsmen back in the pavilion with the most part of the day still remaining, the Windies needed a brave stand from the tail to prevent England from making a dramatic comeback.
However, Bresnan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501 kept West Indies in check and restricted the side on a total below 400 runs.

Cook found his way back to the pavilion after scoring an innings of 24 runs.
While Strauss was tackling the West Indies bowlers, he was joined by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IJL-Trott-c1576 who jabbed a knock of 35 runs before getting trapped in front of stumps off a delivery bowled by Rampaul.
