England versus Ghana – Second half review: International friendly
After ending up as the second best side in the first half, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Derek-Boateng-c10959 and Daniel Opare were thrown into
the fray for the African http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Glen-Johnson-c15050 at the right back position.
In the 58th minute, Ghana almost got their equalizing goal as Joleon Lescott fouled Asamoah Gyan just outside the England penalty area. Sully Muntari stepped up to take the free kick but his shot was whipped clear by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leighton-Baines-c21987. However,
the ball fell directly towards the feet of John Pantsil whose shot rose above Joe Hart’s bar as the score-line remained at one nil.
In the 60th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 brought on Jermaine Defoe in place of Andy Carroll, whereas Ghana replaced Sully Muntari with Andre Ayew. Both the substitutions added something different to the match.
England started to focus on build up play rather than playing long balls towards Carroll’s head, while Ghana benefitted from Ayew’s pace, which was a clear cut tactical substitute for Muntari’s endurance.
In the 62nd minute, referee was forced to brandish the first yellow card of the match as Boateng was booked for his high footed challenge on James Milner. Andre Ayew followed his team mate into the referee’s book in the 64th minute
after the striker committed a late tackle on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Cahill-c14439 in England’s defence. In the 67th minute, Ghana had their best goal-scoring chance of the match as Gyan surged through on goal. However, the Sunderland striker failed to hit the target with
his final finish, as his shot went out of play after striking the side netting of England’s goal. Gyan showcased speed and strength in his run towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Hart-c18699’s goal posts but his eventual finish let him down.
In the 68th minute, England made another substitution as Fabio Capello brought off http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jack-Wilshere-c17463 and introduced Matt Jarvis into the fray at the Wembley stadium. At the 72nd minute mark, England were on the attack once more but this
time http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Milner-c17706 was caught in possession. Manchester City’s midfielder stopped Ghana from embarking on a counter attack by deliberately tackling Asamoah Gyan near the half way line. The referee stopped Milner’s cynical challenge and as a result, the former
Newcastle man was shown England’s first yellow card of the match.
In the 79th minute, Capello replaced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kwadwo-Asamoah-c21502. In
the 84th minute, England almost added to their lead as Welbeck made a fine run into the Ghanaian penalty area, but Leighton Baines failed to supply the Sunderland striker with a perfectly weighted ball, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Richard-Kingson-c31087 came out of his six yard
box to gather in the full back’s cross.
It was not long before Ghana got their equalizer. It was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joleon-Lescott-c18941 in the 90th minute of the encounter. Gyan produced a clinical finish as he dispatched a powerfully struck shot
past the on-rushing Joe Hart. Eventually, the match came to an end with the score-line at 1-1 at the Wembley stadium.
