England vs USA result, USA ties the game with england 1-1. USA did well and played well. game is tied and England did not win. no one gave the USA any chance but they played their hearts out. England did play well but USA did one better. This was not a tie but a win for USA and a loss for English fans.
Captain Steven Gerrard gave England its first goal within the first four minutes but USA did well to stay in the game. Five minutes before the half time USA scored a goal of their own to tie the game. It was a shocking goalkeeping error from Robert Green which allowed the US to equalise, ensuring that the sides are level at the break.
The skipper latched onto a superb reverse ball from Emile Heskey before coolly finishing past Tim Howard with the outside of his right foot. It was a dream start to the campaign for Fabio Capello's men, and a typical Gerrard goal. The midfielder burst through the US defence to emphatically give his side the advantage.
Fabio CApello had a long talk with England during the half time, the team played much faster and better but were not able to go through USA defence.
England ended up with 1 goal and three yellow cards while USA scored one goal and received two yellow cards.
Wayne Rooney in the second half finally come to life, and he just failed to connect with a teasing Gerrard cross before his stunning 25-yard effort fizzed wide of Howard's left hand post. Moments later, the Manchester United forward set up Wright-Phillips, who shot straight at the goalkeeper.
The brilliant Gerrard was soon producing another superb cross, headed over by Heskey this time, and despite the introduction of Peter Crouch late on, England couldn't muster a winner.
In truth a point was probably the least that the US deserved, despite the freakish nature of their goal, and both sides will now be firm favourites to progress from Group C.
That, though, will be little comfort to Green tonight.
This was not the start the English fans were looking for but this is world cup; anything can happen. England will now get back to the planning board and see what they can do in their next game.
