England will struggle at Gabba: Ricky Ponting
Australia may be struggling to notch up wins in international cricket in recent times but the captain Ricky Ponting has not abstained from sending out warnings to their Ashes opponents. In a latest salvo
fired at England, Ponting said that the English side will find it difficult to adjust to the Gabba track in Brisbane, the venue for the first Ashes Test match between the two sides.
Ponting reasoned that under normal circumstances, most visitors find the Brisbane track difficult to adapt to, but this season, the situation could have been worsened thanks to the inclement weather.
Ponting also spoke about Australia’s record at the Gabba.
"Our record there is unbelievably good and we want to make sure we continue that on," told the
Australian.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has yet to lose a Gabba Test match since 1988 and the last time England won here was in 1986. England has won only four of the 18 Tests that they have played at Gabba as well.
England play three warm-up games before the start of the Ashes. However, Ponting scoffed at England’s warm-games.
"There's been a lot made of England's preparation, the fact that they're here early and they're playing lots of games, but they don't play a match at the Gabba before the first Test. They'll definitely
still find it hard to come to grips with what they're confronted with in Brisbane day one."
There may be some truth behind what Ponting has said given the manner in which the track behaved in recent domestic play. The steep bounce that the track afforded meant that the Queensland-New South Wales
match ended in two days as the hosts were bundled out for 75 and 96.
Even http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 were not spared and could score only 115 in an ODI three days ago. Australia had then easily overhauled the target.
