Whilst the English men are just a victory away from winning an Ashes series in Australia, England Women won their second warm-up game against Western Australia women in two days in their ongoing Ashes tour of Australia. In the 50-overs match played at Floreat
Park Oval, Perth the visitors set a crushing 116 runs defeat against Western Australia women. Chasing away 246 to win, the hosts never looked in a winning form before they were rolled over in the penultimate over with only 129 on the board.
The England captain Charlotte Edwards blazed away with the bat to score an aggressive 41-ball 48 to set her side on the way to a competitive total. Edwards’ whirlwind innings was well supported by No. 7 Danielle Wyatt who scored a quick 46 to take the side
to 245. Katherine Brunt and Holly Colvin complemented their side’s efficient batting display to bundle the home side out for only 129.

Edwards retired in the 12th over. She cleared the boundary eight times during her 41-ball stay at the crease. That took Lydia Greenway to the crease and in partnership with Taylor, the duo played a flurry of sweetly timed boundaries to bring hundred
up for the visitors inside 18 overs. The score rose up to 106 for 3 when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Burns-c48842 broke the stumps of Taylor for 36. Taylor was soon followed back by Greenway and Gunn as the side faltered to 133 in the 24th over.
Beth Morgan and Danielle Wyatt then combined for a 61-run sixth-wicket partnership to calm the nerves of the tourists taking the side to 194 in the next 10 overs. After Morgan’s dismissal, Wyatt got things going for England as the side amassed 245 before
the whole team was bowled out in the 48th over.
In reply, Western Australia went off to a bad start and continued losing wickets at continuous intervals, as Brunt and Colvin did not let the home line-up settle against a tight attack backed up by a sharp fielding. Lauren Stammers top scored with 25 runs
while six of the batsmen failed to get past single digit scores. Katherine Brunt finished with four for 24 from 8 overs while Colvin returned with 3 for 11 from his quota of 10 overs.
The English women will kick start their Ashes campaign against Australia on January 5, 2011 in Perth.
