England women’s cricket captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Women’s World T20 tournament, commencing in Sri Lanka from September 26.
England women had won the inaugural edition of the Women’s world T20 championship in 2009. In the 2010 edition, the English cricketers failed to reach the semi-finals stage, as their traditional rivals Australia ended up as the champions.
While speaking to the ESPNcricinfo, the English skipper said that their poor show in the 2010 had made them stronger, insisting that they will go all the way to lift the coveted trophy this time around.
"It's made me more hungry for success and I think that has probably come out in the team as well,” said the Huntingdon-born right-handed batsman. “They are really hungry to win back this Twenty20 trophy," she added further.
Despite their unimpressive show in the previous edition, Edwards and her ladies remain favourites to win back the World T20 Champ title, which they had conceded in 2010, given their impressive performance in the shortest format of the game over the last two years.
Edwards said that the 2010 World T20 Championship, where they faced a group stage elimination despite being the defending champions, was the turning point for England's T20 cricket.
"We came home, had a good look at what we were doing and realised we needed to change a few things, and from there we set up a brand of cricket that has worked really really well for us," said the right-hander, who has to date played 56 T20 Internationals, scoring 1427 runs at an impressive average of 31.02, including five half centuries, and has nine wickets as well in her name.
Edwards said that it was exciting to be part of women’s cricket.
"This is an exciting time to be part of the women's game," said the English skipper. "This World Cup is an opportunity for those youngsters to really shine," she went on to add.
