England’s Ali Carter hints retirement after 2012 World Snooker Championship – Snooker news
England’s Ali Carter has decided to retire from World Snooker after participating in the 2012 World Snooker Championship in May. The Englishman feels that he is not enjoying his game, adding that he also cannot travel much due to his health. The feeling
of not enjoying the game anymore might be due to his below-par performances in the previous season.
Speaking to BBC Sports about his retirement plans, Carter said, “Snooker is part of my life, but it's a part of my life I'm not enjoying any more. I'm not really enjoying being a snooker player at the moment at all. That's for many different reasons but
I'll wait and see how things are at the end of the season for me.”
The 32-year-old added, “My health is a big issue with my Crohn's disease and all the travelling and going abroad all the time makes it even more difficult to control. But I'm in a fortunate position where I've achieved and won a few tournaments so I'll wait
and see what my options are.”
The former World Snooker Championship finalist was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease back in 2003, which became one of the reasons for his lower performance. The Essex potter was nudged down at the 2011 UK Championship by Mark Allen with a score of 6-2. After
that, he wrote on his Twitter account “I'm going to retire at the end of the season! And I can't wait!”
Carter is one of the key players in the world rankings of snooker and has achieved a respected place in the sport. He is a convincing potter with outstanding talent of building big breaks. Although he has not won so many major ranking titles but his snooker
genius is second to none. The last major ranking tournament he won was the 2010 Shanghai Masters in September at the Shanghai Grand Stage.
The previous season was no good for the Captain either, as he was not able to perform up to standards. He reached the final of the 2011 Wuxi Classic against the World Number One, Mark Selby, but could not put up a strong performance and tumbled down by the
score line of 9-7. After that, he reached the final of two Premier League Snooker events but lost there too.
