England’s Andrew Smith nails Men’s Singles title at Slovenia International 2012
Andrew Smith, a talented shuttler from England, made his presence felt as he nailed Men’s Singles title after defeating India’s Mohit Kamat in final clash at FZ Forza Slovenia International 2012 in Slovenia, on Sunday, May 13.
Smith was un-seeded in Men’s Singles draw of the event but he proved his worth by playing top class badminton and remained successful in winning the title in an emphatic fashion.
In the final match, Smith was too strong as he did not lost any game and remained successful in winning the battle against Mohit in straight games while consuming 50 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Mohit could not stretch his impressive winning run as he failed to produce better form against his English opponent and lost the title match in two games with a decent margin on the board.
In the opening set of the match, both shuttlers played tremendous badminton as they kept the tempo quite fast and remained toe-to-toe at initial stage.
Smith was playing powerful drives while Mohit was employing smashes but none of them could take a comfortable lead until the mid-game break in the first game.
After the break, the English shuttlers started to control the pace of rallies while working well at net.
Smith executed flat shots to keep his opponent away from net and remained successful in taking the opening game with a decent margin of 21-18 on the board.
In the second game, Mohit tried to take lead at the early stage but he failed to create gaps in his rival’s court and also remained struggling to take the bird early.
In the meanwhile, Smith remained composed as he did not execute risky shots and kept a firm grip over the pace of rallies.
Smith managed to remain slightly ahead on his Indian opponent until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the English shuttler continued playing composed and positive badminton and remained successful in winning the second game with a comfortable score of 21-17.
Smith emerged as the title winner at Slovenia International as he wrapped up the final match with a 21-18 and 21-17 margin on the board.
