England’s Barry Hawkins wins 2012 Snooker Shootout after beating Scotland’s Graeme Dott
The final of 2012 Snooker Shootout was an easy clash for Englishman, Barry Hawkins as he put up a superb performance at the Tower Circus in Blackpool to nudge his Scottish opponent, Graeme Dott down with an easy margin of 38 points at 61-23. The Kent potter
was outstanding from the very start of the match and did not let his rival take any chances to dominate the game.
The Hawk reached the final encounter of the event after ousting compatriot Dave Harold in the semi-final clash by the score line of 56-30. Harold tried his best to achieve the goal but Hawkins’ impressive snooker genius was too tough to handle for him.
Dott, on the other hand, was up against England’s Tom Ford in his semi-final encounter. The former World Snooker Champion completely dominated the match with his classy game play and trashed his opponent easily by 56-38.
The Hawkins-Dott battle at the baize for the title was quite amazing. The Englishman drew first blood with a scintillating knock of 46 points at the start of the match but he missed a red while trying to play using the rest and let Dott come at the table.
The Scotsman was able to score only eight points before he jawed a red in the middle pocket and left the table for Hawkins who swept it no time and claimed the shootout title. The 32-year-old is thrilled with his victory.
The World Number 23 was ecstatic and said, “It's a brilliant feeling, definitely the best moment of my career so far. “I've played in big matches at the Crucible, but to win a tournament live on television is amazing. It's a shame there were no ranking points
but I'm still delighted.”
“The money is amazing, especially as I'm getting married in June (to Tara) in Dartford. This will pay for the whole thing and we'll be able to have a great day. I've always scored very heavily in practice so it's a case of taking that to the match table.
Hopefully this is the start of things to come”, added Hawkins, clinched the 2007 Masters qualifying tournament.
Hawkins will next fly to Germany to take part in the 2012 German Masters at the Tempodrom in Berlin where he will play his first-round match against former World Snooker Champion, Shaun Murphy.
