England’s David Gilbert excited for his Crucible entry: 2012 World Snooker Championship
Potters from around the world will be battling for the ultimate glory at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. England’s David Gilbert is one of the potters who finally made their way into the televised stages of the 2012 World Snooker Championship after putting
up an excellent show in the qualifying session at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The Englishman is quite ecstatic after booking his place in the opening round and is aiming to perform up to the mark so that he can not only improve his ranking but also get the super experience of playing under Crucible ceiling. Gilbert will be facing
compatriot Martin Gould in the first round and hopes he can play well against his opponent.
While speaking to the media, Gilbert said, “It was exciting and I went to bed thinking 'I'm going to be in the paper tomorrow having beaten the world number one. I concentrated on that more than the match – whereas this time I'm going there not interested
about what anyone says. I'm going there to play snooker and I'm going to win.”
He added, “I wouldn't say last time that I treated it like a day out because I wanted to win, don't get me wrong, but I suppose I wasn't too upset to come away a loser. This time I want to win, I want to get up the rankings, I want to do what I feel I can
do, and I need to start now.”
Gilbert has played against Gould once before during the qualifying session of the 2009 World Snooker Championship. He played impressively against Gould but was unable to defeat him and crashed out of the qualifiers after losing the battle by the score line
of 8-10.
Gilbert has never been in higher ranks since he started playing professionally in 2001. The highest rank he possessed was World Number 43 and now he on 68th rank. Improving his position by clinching points in the major events is crucial for him
and the 2012 World Snooker Championship is a unique opportunity for him where his performance in the event will play a vital role.
