He overtakes his http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Luca-Vettori-c52306, who held the no 1 spot from September 2009.
This is the first time that an England bowler has been able to reach such heights in One Day cricket, which is a testament to the rise of the 32-year-old.
Known more for his desire to perform well in test cricket, Swann has grown in maturity and stature, with consistent performances for the English team earning him great reviews from his fellow peers.
His accolades in test cricket have led him to carry that momentum in the shorter format of the game where he has become a vital cog in the English side.
Currently Swann has 80 One Day career wickets in 56 matches, where his average of 24 is commendable, given the state of One-Day cricket, where spinners usually go for plenty.
Since the ICC World Cup 2011, which started in late February this year, Swann has played in 10 matches, taking 17 wickets at an impressive average of 22.29.
Other movers for England team in the ICC player ranking were pacers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465. However, there were mixed emotions for both the players.
For Anderson, the series against Sri Lanka was a success, where he took nine wickets at an average of 21.77, shooting to the 11 spot in the ICC bowler rankings.
There was no such joy for Broad though, who had a miserable series, averaging 95.50 and taking just two wickets. This slipped him to 21st in the player bowler ranking, a drop of eight places.
As for the English batters, the rise of their new one Day captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alastair-Nathan-Cook-c42852 is well documented. His heroics in the series, in which he has averaged just a touch under 75, has moved him in the top 50 ODI batsmen.
As for Swann, the next task is a series against the top ranked Indian team, where he will be hoping to lead his side to success and put a strong claim for the no 1 spot in Test Bowler ranking as well. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 currently occupies the top
berth in the Test format.
