England’s Jack Lisowski surges into Last 16 beating Barry Hawkins: 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals
Emerging young potter from England, Jack Lisowski earned his first win against the 2012 Snooker Shootout winner, compatriot Barry Hawkins in the first round of 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway,
Ireland. The youngster had a tussling encounter with Hawkins but managed to hit the victory by the close score line of 4-3.
The tournament has been producing some outstanding snooker clashes which attracted more fans to the arena. However, the Lisowski-Hawkins encounter is the only close competition so far where the result was uncertain until the end of seventh frame. Both potters
showed impressive game play during the match going neck-to-neck to the decisive frame where Lisowski pushed Hawkins 4-3 down.
The 20-year-old Lisowski cruised past Hawkins two frames up at 2-0 early in the match after he nudged him down with some classy snooker genius. Hawkins did not take it lightly and sprang back into the game to pull level at 2-2 before the end of first session.
The second session of the game witnessed Hawkins snatching the overall lead at 2-3 after he pocketed a cracking knock of 78. Lisowski replied with a superb clearance of 68 to move within one frame up to equalise the scores at 3-3. The seventh frame was totally
Lisowski dominated as the youngster potted a match-winning break of 99 points to breeze past into the first round victory by 4-3.
Speaking to World Snooker after his match, Lisowski said, “I was nervous at the end so it was nice to win in one visit. I played a kamikaze shot early in the break going into the pack of reds, and then played a bad shot on 50 and had to pot a long blue,
but otherwise it was a good break.”
The left hander added, “I've had a rubbish season so far. I came into it expecting to qualify for every event, but then I started thinking about guarding ranking points which was the wrong mentality. I've never done well at a venue before so this week I've
got no expectations, I'll just play with a smile on my face.”
The youngster will next meet the former World Snooker Champion, Neil Robertson of Australia in the second round of the tournament.
