England’s Jamie Cope regrets his lost against John Higgins in 2012 World Open
England’s Jamie Cope was looking forward to make his appearance in the 2012 World Open snooker tournament at the Haikou Stadium arena in Hainan Island but he failed to improvise according to the situation and lost to John Higgins in the second round.
The Englishman started his 2012 World Open campaign brilliant coming from the qualifying session Round 4. He defeated Scotland’s Jamie Burnett by the score line of 5-1 in the qualifiers to reach the initial round of the 2012 World Open.
He faced compatriot Martin Gould in the first round of the event and played impressively against him. The first-round clash was a topsy-turvy affair as both potters went neck and neck to hit the second round place. Eventually Cope was victorious by the score
line of 5-4 and cruised into the second round against the reigning World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins.
The 26-year-old was a bit nervous in the beginning because Higgins is considered one of the toughest challengers of world snooker. Higgins had a psychological advantage over the Englishman and he cashed that advantage to beat him by the whitewash score line
of 5-0. Cope could not get a chance to capitalise during the match and crashed out of the tournament which was quite disappointing for him.
After his match, he spoke to the local press, “I had a chance to win the first frame and didn't take it, and the match got away from me after that. I am disappointed because I played well in my last match and would have liked to have stayed here longer,
but John played very well.”
The World Number 23 added, “John's a class act. If you give him chances, he's going to punish you. On the plus side, I've got some good ranking points under my belt so I can go to the China Open with confidence and then try to make sure of my place at the
World Championship next month.”
Cope will next participate in the 2012 China Open starting from March 26 at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena in Beijing. He has already qualified for the tournament after ousting Scotland’s Alan McManus by 5-4 score line.
