England’s Joe Perry nudges down Graeme Dott in Round 2 of 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals
After facing little resistance from the former World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s Graeme Dott, the English potter Joe Perry managed to clinch the second round clash by the score line of 4-2.
England’s Perry was outstanding at the baize against the Scotsman and made a major upset beating him with some classy snooker display in 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway. Before the contest began,
the stats were favouring Dott as he has been convincing throughout the current season but Perry turned the tables with his outstanding form.
The Scotsman grabbed early advantage over the Englishman but things turned into Perry’s favour after the first session of the match. Despite the fact that Dott had a psychological advantage over Perry, the former World Snooker Champion was not able to make
an appearance in the game and slipped easily down by two frames.
The Wisbech potter fired some classic knocks of 50, 84 and 67 to move a couple of frames up against Dott. The 37-year-old will next meet the former World Snooker Champion from Australia, Neil Robertson in the quarter-finals.
Speaking to World Snooker after the match, Perry said, “I played a lot better than I did last night. I made a couple of silly errors but in the balls I felt I was going to score, and I thought I deserved to win. It will be a big game against Neil because
we're playing for a lot of money and I'm still searching for my first big title.”
The World Number 25 added, “Neil and I are good friends and one match isn't going to change that, although we won't speak about the match tomorrow. I know what he's got and I know I'll have to play exceptionally well to beat him.”
Perry has played Robertson only once before when he reached the quarter-final stage of the 2009 Grand Prix at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Scotland. Perry received a brutal defeat at the hands of Victorian potter by the score line of 5-1 and crashed out of
the tournament while Robertson lifted the title after ousting China’s Ding Junhui by 9-4.
