England’s Jonathan Trott eying all-rounder role in the side
After a match-winning performance against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 at the Adelaide Oval, England’s number three batsman, Jonathan Trott is now looking forward to fill the all-rounder position in England’s Test squad created by Paul Collingwood’s retirement.
“If I could bowl like Colly has in this tour, then definitely I can help the side,” Trott was quoted as saying by a leading newspaper.
The 29-year-old Warwickshire batsman blazed away with the bat scoring a brilliant century as the tourists were able to post a daunting total of 299 in the fourth One Day International of the seven-match series. Trott then backed his startling
batting performance with clinical bowling picking up two crucial wickets to halt the Australian innings.
“When called upon to bowl, it is always nice to contribute. I know how cricket can be; it can be a nice game and it can be a horrible game sometimes,” said the batsman who was adjudged Man of the Match for his impressive performance.
But it was his 126-ball 102 that gave him more satisfaction than his bowling figures of 2 for 31 from 7 overs.
“Obviously I'm in the team to get hundreds. I was very happy to do that and set up a very good total,” he said.
The right-hander, who has played 18 Tests and 15 ODIs since debuting in August 2009, conceded that a lot of work is needed before he could come anywhere close to his teammate Collingwood, who has said good bye to Test cricket after a patchy
form in the recently concluded 2010-11 Ashes series that England won 3-1.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 batsman also acknowledged wicketkeeper batsman, Matt Prior’s efforts at the top.
“The way Matt Prior was going, for me it was just knocking it around and picking up the odd boundary when it came around; he always made it easier for me,” said Trott. “When we lost the three wickets, it was important that we didn't have
what happened in Sydney with a progression of wickets.”
Prior shared a 113-run stand with Trott for the second wicket after losing his opening partner, Andrew Strauss in the third over of the day with only 23 on the board. Prior scored 67 runs off 58 balls hitting eight muscular boundaries and
a six.
