England’s Judd Trump beats Shaun Murphy to win Championship League Snooker Group 1 – Snooker news
Top four snooker stars of Championship League Snooker Group 1, Mark Selby, Mark Davis, Shaun Murphy and Judd Trump made their way into the play-offs at the conclusion of first day at Crondon Park Golf Club in Stock, England. In the semi-final stage of the
event, Trump faced Selby while Murphy was up against Davis.
Trump had already played against compatriot and World Number One, Selby and knew the strengths and weaknesses of his opponent. The Bristolian outplayed Selby quite easily by the score line of 3-1 and cruised into the final match.
In the second semi-final, Murphy was head-to-head against Davis. The Magician has has a good track record against Davis, which helped him a lot in his semi-final run. The 29-year-old Murphy ousted his opponent quite easily by 3-1 and booked his final spot
against Trump.
The Trump-Murphy final encounter was, as expected, a tussling one. Both cuemen were playing neck and neck until they reached the decider frame. The first scrappy frame was won by Murphy 25-84 after he smashed a cracking knock of 84 points.
Trump came back strongly in the second frame and hit a superb century knock of 121 points to clinch the frame by 121-1 and pulled level at 1-1. Murphy grabbed a one-frame lead at 1-2 again, after winning the third frame 19-65 with a superb clearance of 65.
The 22-year-old Trump seemed under immense pressure but the youngster did not lose his focus at all and sprang back brilliantly in the fourth frame. The Ace took the fourth set in one visit by 118-0 with an outstanding century break of 118 and dragged the
game into a decider frame.
The decider frame was an easy contest for the 2011 UK Championship winner, as he claimed it easily by 75-8 after firing a fine break of 67 points. Trump is quite happy with his victory over an experienced potter.
Speaking to the local media after his victory, Trump said, “I’m glad I won the final as Shaun played well and really pushed me but I’m not thinking about missing and I’m getting a lot of chances and taking them but there will be a time when safety play has
to come in.”
The Bristolian has now successfully made his way into the Championship League Snooker Winners Group and will be looking forward to claim the top spot.
