England’s Judd Trump believes he is more popular in China: 2012 Haikou World Open
World Snooker Championship 2012 finalist, England’s Judd Trump believes that he is more popular in China rather than in the UK because he won his first ranking tournament here.
The young English potter is currently at Haikou where he will be participating in the 2012 Haikou World Open at the Haikou Stadium in Hainan Island, Beijing. He is up against compatriot Andrew Higginson in the first round of 2012 World Open. The 22-year-old
Trump will be looking to make an appearance again in the China where he claimed his first major ranking title last year.
Trump was outstanding last year in the 2011 China Open and defeated the current World Number one Mark Selby by the score line of 10-8 in the final to lift his first ranking title. After that, the Bristolian potter emerged as a new sensation in the snooker
world and soon dominated the news with his classy style of play.
The same year he reached the final encounter of 2011 World Snooker Championship against the Scotsman, John Higgins but lost to him 15-18. However, despite losing to the World Champion, the 22-year-old Trump placed himself into the top 16 potters and is still
one of the top snooker players. He showed his class in the 2011 UK Championship and clinched it beating Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen by 10-8.
Speaking to the Chinese press, Trump said that China is his lucky place, because it was the starting point of his career to a new level of competition in China. He also said that he always gets an enthusiastic support of the fans in China and it is because
of their support that he was able to get good ranks. He further added that he feels he is more popular in China than in the UK.
The 2011 UK Championship winner is now aiming to claim the title of 2012 World Open or at least make it to the semi-finals. Trump’s only goal is to win the World Championship and he believes winning the World Champion ship at the age of 23 or 24 will be
a massive mark for him and his career.
