England’s Judd Trump considers John Higgins and Mark Selby as tough opponents – Snooker news
Shining young snooker star, England’s Judd Trump is now sharpening his cue stick for the upcoming 2012 Masters Championship and 2012 German Masters event. After grabbing his first UK Championship title, Trump believes he has gone beyond the fear of playing
against any player on the table. He said that no player in the world ranking intimidates him anymore.
Even then, he reckons world champion, John Higgins, and World Number One, Mark Selby, are two cueists with tremendous talent and both men can be tough opponents during the match. The Bristolian has played both potters at the baize in the finals of two major
ranking events and because of that, he knows about the pressure they can exert on their opponents.
Speaking to London’s local newsportal, London Evening Standard, Trump said about Higgins and Selby, “They both play a different game to me. Mark's a little bit more negative, play good safety and he's a little bit slower. John's tough, just an all-round
great player, the most consistent of the last 10 or 15 years. But I don't really fear anyone anymore.”
The 2011 China Open winner added, “I just want to be the best in the world, to get to the top of the game and dominate it for as long as possible. That's always been my aim since I was little.”
Mr. Haircut 100 played compatriot, Selby, in the final of 2011 China Open championship at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium. The match up was indeed a tussling clash as both cueists were battling to nudge each other down with all their skills. Trump
was not playing like an amateur and he gave his opponent a tough fight that finished 10-8 in his favour.
Playing against the world champion, John Higgins, in the final of snooker’s most prestigious event, the World Snooker Championship, was a dream for Trump that came true on May 1, 2011, at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The Bristolian was definitely under
an immense pressure but it did not affect his game play at all. However, he was not able to win against the Magician and tumbled down at 15-18.
