England’s Judd Trump earned easy win over Jimmy White in Round 1 of 2012 China Open
Runner up in the 2012 World Snooker Championship, England’s Judd Trump started off his 2012 China Open snooker event campaign with a tremendous victory over the former six-time World Snooker Championship runner up, compatriot Jimmy White. The Bristolian
potter defeated the veteran in an easy first round encounter at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium by the score line of 5-3.
The match up was expected to be one of the most thrilling games of the tournament because White seemed quite determined to hit a major ranking event victory. He insisted that he can win any major event before coming to China so the snooker fans were expecting
some fireworks from the experienced potter against the defending China Open champion, Trump.
However, the Whirlwind failed to come up to the expectations of his fans and tumbled down at the hands of Trump even after making a stunning comeback from 0-3 down. On the other hand, the 22-year-old Trump stayed focused and clinched the eighth frame to
finish the game in his favour by the score line of 5-3.
Speaking to World Snooker after his match, White said, “I love it because they start off confident. The first two or three frames I had to build my confidence up. I'm playing ok, I just need a few wins. After this competition I go back home and I've got
two weeks before the World Championship. I've got two qualifying matches so I hope to get to Sheffield this year.”
Trump, on the other hand, added, “I started off pretty good, I felt alright out there but then I kept giving him easy chances from 4-1, and just playing some really bad safeties which let him back in it. It's nice coming out here because I've got a lot of
fans and it's good to play here.”
The 2011 UK Championship winner has successfully surged into the second round of 2012 China Open snooker tournament where he will face Stuart Bingham, the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open winner. Bingham defeated fellow countryman Joe Perry in the initial
round by the score line of 5-4 after a tussling encounter at the arena.
