England’s Judd Trump grabs overall lead of 2012 Championship League Snooker Winners’ Group
First day of the 2012 Championship League Snooker Winners’ Group was totally dominated by the 2011 UK Championship winner, England’s Judd trump. The Englishman played three matches against the former World Snooker Champion Neil Robertson, the 2012 Welsh
Open winner Ding Junhui and the former champ, compatriot Shaun Murphy in the scheduled matches.
With victories in all three matches he played, Trump has taken a strong position in the group. He is currently placed in the top podium of the group table which will benefit him for qualification in the playoffs on Day 2. The Ace showed his class during
his matches and compiled a couple of easy wins against Robertson and Murphy.
However, his match against Junhui was a bit tough because the Chinese played impressively this time and nudged Trump down during the match. The 22-year-old Trump would have lost the game had not sprung back in the decisive frame. With this momentum, Trump
might grab the trophy of the 2012 Championship League Snooker.
The Bristolian potter began his day with his first match against the Australian cueman, Robertson. The Aussie put him under pressure with a superb first frame victory firing a half-century break of 57 points. Trump did not lose his focus and fought back
outstandingly with three consecutive frame wins by the scores of 101-14, 63-44, 68-52. To reach the 3-1 victory score line, the 2011 World Snooker Championship finalist pocketed three cracking knocks of 101, 37 and 62.
Trump set up Ding Junhui clash in the scheduled matches. The contest was tough between both players as they knew the strengths and weaknesses of each because they have played at one table. The Chinese drew first blood with a massive century clearance of
104 to hit the match lead at 0-1. Losing the first frame was a real hitch for the young Bristolian but he stayed focused.
The second scrappy frame was quite nail biting as the pair went neck-to-neck to take the lead. However, Junhui had an advantage over the Bristol potter and clinched the frame by 67-61. The Star of the East, Junhui, hit a superb knock of 58 points to lead
the third frame but it was not enough as Trump cleared the table easily with his classy 72-point compilation. The next two frames were a piece of cake for Trump as he cruised into the 3-2 match win.
The third encounter of Trump against Murphy was another easy win for Mr. Haircut 100 as he breezed into the triumph easily by 3-1. The 2011 China Open winner will be looking forward to hit the jackpot after claiming the Championship League trophy.
