England’s Judd Trump says snooker does not need Rocket Ronnie O’Sullivan
England’s Judd Trump has successfully placed himself in the top dogs’ club after winning the recently finished 2011 UK Championship at the York Barbican Centre. Trump was one of the amateurs who followed the legendary, Ronnie O’Sullivan, from the start of
their careers. Even now, Trump practises with the Rocket to improve his game.
Recently in an interview with London’s local newsportal, London Evening Standard, the Bristolian spoke about his inspiration, O’Sullivan, that he followed him from the beginning of his career. On the other hand, he said that the way O’Sullivan is always
talking about quitting the game that shows he is no more in love with the sport and may be that is why Snooker does not need O’Sullivan anymore.
Mr. Haircut 100 was believed to have the Rocket’s style of play, as he likes to play fast and tricky shots. What made him play more like his inspiration, were his practice sessions with him. However, he always felt nervous playing against O’Sullivan but
he does not feel that way anymore.
Speaking to the local newsportal, Trump said, “I have wanted to be the next Ronnie O'Sullivan since I was eight. When I was younger, playing Ronnie would've brought the most pressure. Not anymore. The game doesn't need Ronnie. The game can cope without him.”
The Ace added, “There's a lot of top players coming through. Within the next couple of years, there'll be someone to take over from him. He's always talking about quitting the game so I don't think he enjoys it as much as I do. But I still think he's got
a hunger and I think he'll still be around for a long time.”
The 2011 UK Championship winner has played against the Essex Exocet, O’Sullivan, on four occasions before, in two Players Tour Championship (PTC) events, a Premier League Snooker match and at the 2011 UK Championship.
Their recent encounter was a second-round clash of 2011 UK Championship, where the 2011 China Open champion ousted the Wordsley potter by the score line of 6-5 after a tussling game. Securing a win against O’Sullivan in such a big tournament was one of Trump’s
best performances of his career.
