England’s Judd Trump trounces Stuart Bingham in second round of 2012 China Open
Former World Snooker Championship finalist, Judd Trump from England breezed past the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open winner, compatriot Stuart Bingham by the score line of 5-3 in the second round clash of the 2012 China Open snooker tournament. The Bristolian had trouble against Bingham in the beginning of the clash but settled down later to finish the match in his favour.
The 22-year-old fought back from 3-2 down to hit the victory by 5-3 in front of hundreds of snooker fans who came to watch him play at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena. The Bristol potter held the Chinese title in the same arena last year and made a strong fan following in China. Before coming to play in the tournament, he was determined to retain the title and relive the memories.
Bingham controlled the table early in the game with a couple of tremendous knocks of 54 and 103 to nudge the defending champion 3-2 down. However, after that he was not able to add any more frames to his scores as the Ace sprang back into the game with some classy clearances of 59, 61, 90 and 53 in the competition and clinch his second win in the event.
Speaking to World Snooker after winning over Bingham, Trump said, “It was a bit of a struggle today, we both played quite badly. I won the first game and was in the balls in the second but this cameraman put me off. Stuart ended up winning that frame and it kind of got to me a bit so I was just happy to get the win in the end.”
The 2011 UK Championship winner added, “I feel good, but I was just a little bit tired today. I didn't really sleep well last night so that was one of the main reasons. I didn't get my 12 hours so I struggled a bit today! It was just the odd shot here and there that I missed, which made me lose confidence.”
Mr. Haircut 100 will next meet the winner of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals, compatriot Stephen Lee in the quarter-final stage of the event. Trump believes that his quarter-final clash against Lee will be tough because he has been performing well so far in the season.
