England’s Judd Trump whitewashes Andrew Higginson in Round 1 of 2012 World Open
World Snooker Championship 2011 finalist, England’s young Judd Trump stamped his first victory in the first round of the 2012 World Open at the Haikou Stadium in the Hainan Island, Beijing.
The Bristolian potter put up an excellent snooker display at the arena to whitewash his opponent, compatriot Andrew Higginson by the score line of 5-0. With this whitewash win over Higginson, Trump has started another successful campaign in a Chinese snooker
event. The 22-year-old Trump believes he started his career in a real sense from the Chinese soil and he always gets good support here.
While speaking to the World Snooker after his match, the Bristol cueist said, “I think I played pretty well and I know Andrew didn't play that well so that made it pretty easy for me. I felt good out there and there were a lot of people. It was quite noisy
and I didn't expect that many people to be honest. I had a lot of support so I was happy.”
Last year he grabbed his first major ranking event from China when he ousted Mark Selby in the final of 2011 China Open. The same year he managed to make it to the final clash of 2011 World Snooker Championship against Scotland’s John Higgins. Despite the
fact that he lost the final but he engraved his name in the list of top potters of the world.
Recently, before beginning his run in the 2012 World Open, Trump said on the local media that he is more famous in China than in the UK and he likes to play there because he won his first ranking title here. During his first-round match, he had local crowd’s
backing all the time and he played up to their expectations. He will be meeting Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen or compatriot Jimmy Robertson in Round 2 of the event.
Meanwhile, the reigning World Snooker Champion has also surged into the second round of the 2012 World Open snooker tournament after he defeated Hong Kong’s Marco Fu by the score line of 5-3 in their first round contest at the Haikou Stadium arena in Beijing.
