England’s Mark Davis eager to reach Top 16 potters: 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals – Snooker News
Winner of 2012 Championship League Snooker Group 4, England’s Mark Davis has been a consistent performer in the 2011-12 Snooker Season but still he was not able to book his place in the Top 16 potters of the World. The Englishman is now aiming to improve
his form in the upcoming events so that he can get into the Top 16.
Davis has never been in the World Top 16 ranks from the start of his career. His only top ranking was 17 which he grabbed after convincing performance early in the current snooker season. However, he failed to retain his ranks later in the circuit and slipped
down to Number 18 rank after he crashed out of some major ranking events and could not reach the televised stages.
To make it into the Top 16, he needs some breakthroughs especially in the major ranking snooker events next professional circuit. He did play astoundingly in some minor ranking tournaments but it did not do him any good to fulfil his goal.
He is currently playing in the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway Ireland. He insisted that playing in the PTC Grand Finals he is not aiming to improve his rankings. Instead, he is looking to make
an appearance in the tournament to improve his game.
While speaking to World Snooker, Davis said, “It hasn't bothered me as much as people would think. Don't get me wrong, I would love to be in the top 16, but it's not as big as it used to be because of the way the rankings work now.”
“I would have knocked Ronnie O'Sullivan out but when you compare our careers, he should be the one in the top 16! It has been frustrating because it is a big milestone and once you get in the top 16, who knows what can happen. I'm further away from it now
but it's not playing on my mind and I'm just trying to win matches.”
Davis has successfully made his way into the Last-16 round of the 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals after beating compatriot Tom Ford in the first round by the score line of 4-1. He will be facing Scotland’s Stephen Maguire in the second round.
