England’s Mark Selby determined to retain World Number one spot: 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals
World Number one, England’s Mark Selby is all set to take on the winner of the first round match between China’s Ding Junhui and Ben Woollaston in 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals at the Bailey Allen Hall arena in Galway, Ireland. The
Englishman is determined to retain his top rank until the end of the 2011-12 Snooker Season.
The Jester from Leicester clinched the World Number one spot after he claimed the 2011 Shanghai Masters beating Wales’ Mark Williams by a close score line of 10-9. After that the 28-year-old kept his form up to the mark to retain his top place. He gave some
outstanding performances later in the season reaching the advanced stages of some major ranking events to remain the number one potter so far.
Currently he is present in Ireland where he will be participating in the Grand Finals of 2011-12 PTC series. Due to his remarkable form in the said PTC series, he was able to occupy a spot in the quarter-final line up of the event. Mark the Shark is aiming
to keep the leading position in his hands as long as possible.
While speaking to World Snooker, Selby said, “It would be great to still be at the top come the end of the season. I've not worked out what I have to do in terms of ranking points, but if I keep winning matches then it will take care of itself.”
The Leicester potter added, “It would have been nice to win one or two more titles but the standard is so high now that it's very tough to win anything. I got to the semi-finals in Haikou and I was 5-2 up on Mark Allen, then he made four big breaks in a
row to beat me 6-5 without me even getting a chance to win the match.”
Selby reached the final encounters of a couple of major ranking events in the second half of the season but failed to win any of them. However, despite losing in the finals, he was able to maintain his ranks and he hopes to continue dominating the rankings
after the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
