England’s Paul Casey all geared up to win the Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona
World number six, Paul Casey of England, has high hopes that he will end his drought since the past two years in the Professional Golfer’s Association Tour event of the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship being played at the scenic Ritz-Carlton Golf course
in Arizona on 23 February 2011. He was runners-up for the past two years in 2009 and 2010. Casey is all geared up and will try to overcome the challenge laid down by his opponents to win the tournament this year.
The Englishman lost in the final to Geoff Ogilvy of Australia in 2009 by a small margin. Last year, he lost in the final to his fellow countryman Ian Poulter who played exceptionally well to overcome his opponent Casey. Casey has high hopes for making a come-back
this year and put his name on the trophy.
Casey, who is 33 years old, has been paired against his fellow European Tour player Richard Green of Australia in the first round. The total prize money sanctioned by Accenture for the event is 8.5-million-dollars, which tees off from tomorrow.
Paul Casey during his interview commented on his previous record said, “I think I’ve always been a player who’s been aggressive on the golf course, makes a lot of birdies and then occasionally will throw in the odd mistake.”
Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland does not have an impressive record in the Match Play format as compared for his fellow European Tour member. He is also the defending US Open Champion and is looking forward for a better finish this year in the tournament.
McDowell in the recent times has shown his class on the field. The Irishman last year in Ryder Cup proved that he can be the best when it comes to Match Play format and won a crucial point for the Europeans who were victorious in the Ryder Cup last year. He
is determined to show his prowess this year when he faces Heath Slocum of the USA.
The youngster from Ireland, Rory McIlroy, will be competing against Jonathan Byrd of the USA. He was tied for 17th last year and tied for fifth in 2009. The Irishman will be looking forward to show his shot-making ability on the field against his
opponent. He is all ready to face the challenge and is currently in great shape. McIlroy has shown in the past that he can compete against the best in the World. Byrd who is enjoying his form this season already has two PGA Tour wins under his belt this year.
The defending champion Ian Poulter of England will be hoping to defend his title this year as well. Poulter who is always colourful on the field enjoys playing this format and won last year against his compatriot Paul Casey. The Englishman will try to retain
his trophy and show his excellence on the course. He is paired up against the experienced American Stuart Cink.
The tournament will be very exciting, as some of the world's top golfers will battle it out for top honours. It will be interesting to see how competitive Casey is this year.
