England’s Peter Ebdon lifts 2012 China Open title beating Stephen Maguire in final
A marvellous win for the Englishman, Peter Ebdon as he trashed his opponent, Scotland’s Stephen Maguire in the final encounter of the 2012 China Open snooker tournament to lift his first major ranking title in three years. The former World Snooker Champion
played scintillatingly in the ultimate match and ousted his Scottish opponent by a close score line of 10-9.
The final game was tussling as both potters went neck-and-neck until the game was dragged into the final decisive frame where Ebdon took over the Scot and hit the victory. Maguire played sensibly along with Ebdon and kept his game up to the mark to unsettle
his opponent. Ebdon, on the other hand, kept his cool to take advantage of the opportunities he availed during the final game.
The first session of the game began with Ebdon’s dominance in the first scrappy frame win by the score line of 63-27. The second frame ended in Maguire’s favour after he fired a classy half century break of 53 to win the frame by 1-61. After that, the former
champ pocketed two impressive knocks of 107 and 64 to end the first session with two frames lead at 3-1.
The 41-year-old Ebdon continued with his scintillating form in the second session with three more frame victories firing two stunning breaks of 124 and 52. Maguire could win only one frame in this session which finished in Ebdon’s favour at 6-2. The tables
turned in the third session where the Scottish potter struck back with three set triumphs to move within three frames up at 7-5. He fired a couple of tremendous clearances of 98 and 65 in the third session.
Ebdon began the fourth session with a superb break of 65 points to win the first frame of the session but after that he failed to win any frame and the Maggi cruised into three frame wins to pull level at 8-8 with the breaks of 70 and 97. The 17th
frame was taken by Ebdon with 103-point break followed by Maguire’s frame win by 49-66 to equalise the scores at 9-9 and drag the game into the decisive set.
The final frame was an easy win for Ebdon as he pushed down Maguire by 62-24 to win the final match 10-9.
