England’s Rajiv Ouseph determined to prove his worth at the 2011 Badminton World Championships
England’s Men’s Singles ace shuttler, Rajiv Ouseph, is determined to prove his worth in the upcoming event of the 2011 Badminton World Championships, which will take place at the Wembley Arena, in London, from Monday, August 8.
The 24-year-old Ouseph, who is currently ranked at Number 27 in the Men’s Singles world rankings, has been playing good badminton for the last couple of years. He has gained a certain level of maturity by having an extensive experience of international badminton.
Now, he is quite confident to play to his full potential in the upcoming world meet.
However, Ouseph was a bit unlucky as he failed to find a favourable Men’s Singles draw in the World Championships. He is set to play against the most celebrated European shuttler and World Number Three, Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark, as early as in the first
round of Men’s Singles category.
Ouseph has a miserable record against the Danish shuttler, as in their previous six meetings, Peter Gade always emerged as the winner in all matches. The English shuttler wants to break the deadlock by winning against the higher ranked Danish veteran. However,
his chances to win against Peter Gade are quite scanty, as the Danish is in wonderful form at the moment.
While talking about the Men’s Singles draw of the mega event, Ouseph said, “It's a tough draw but if you're going to beat the best in the world, you'll have to do it in the major tournaments.”
He further added, “It's a good opportunity to do well in front of my home crowd. To win that first match would be a pretty good win for me. I've certainly been close to beating him. There's a couple of people in the draw I really struggle with so there could
have been worse draws. I certainly have no mental problem facing him - there's always a time to get a first win.”
To make his presence felt to Asian shuttlers in the meet, Ouseph needs to play top-class badminton and beat the Danish player in the opening round of the World Championships.
