England’s Ricky Walden disheartened by 2011 UK Championship defeat against Mark Allen
England’s Ricky Walden had a fine start at the York barbican Centre after he entered the 2011 UK Championship’s initial round as a qualifier. The Englishman enjoyed a superb campaign in the beginning beating compatriot, Stephen Lee, Mark Williams and Shaun
Murphy in the first three rounds, respectively. However, Bagillt’s Ricky Walden lost in the semi-finals at the hands of Mark Allen.
The 29-year-old put his opponent through a nail-biting fight during the semi-final clash but somehow, he could not unsettle Allen to surge into the finals. Walden still feels disappointed with his performance in the match against the 2011 UK Championship
finalist. The feeling of not reaching the finals of 2011 UK Championship, even when he had the chance, still pinches him.
He spoke to reporters and said, “I am disappointed, even now a few days later, that I didn’t get my hands on that trophy because I felt good and believed I had a chance.”
The Stamina Man added, “The break in the semi came at a bad time because I knew Allen would come out fighting and after the first session I barely got my hand on the table. I still had a big chance to keep the momentum at one stage but I missed a shot on
the brown and that was it.”
The Chester potter played at his best on the baize in Barbican Centre arena to prove himself worthy of the title with his excellent snooker skills. Beating the Welshman, Mark Williams, gave a massive boost to his performance and he ensured that his quarter-final
clash against Shaun Murphy was a piece of cake for him. His snooker run in the UK event was one of his best performances ever.
Meanwhile, Walden is sharpening his cue stick and improving his skills by practicing hard on the table. He is utilising his defeat in the 2011 UK Championship as a motivation to enhance his abilities for future tournaments. He said that he has been training
hard and trying to cover up small mistakes which affected his game in the past.
He is now testing his practice session improvements in the ongoing snooker event, the Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 12, Stage 1. He has made his way successfully to the fourth round of the event after beating Liu Song 4-3, Gerard Greene 4-2 and Ding
Junhui 4-0 in the first three rounds, respectively.
