England’s Rod Lawler happy with new season start – Snooker Update
New snooker season has been a superb for the English potter, veteran Rod Lawler who was able to make it to the advance stages of the major ranking snooker tournaments.
Lawler put in a decent effort in the previous season but unfortunately he was unable to make it past the qualifying sessions of some of the major snooker tournaments.
The new snooker season was a superb start for the Englishman as he started brilliantly in the 2012 Wuxi Classic. He hit the initial stage with impressive play in the qualifiers and reached the second round where he tumbled down against Graeme Dott. He performed
convincingly in the qualifying round of the 2012 Shanghai Masters too but crashed out in the final round. Nevertheless, the English potter is quite happy and satisfied with his new season campaign start.
While speaking to Pro Snooker Blog in an interview, Lawler said, “I’m delighted with the start I have had. It has justified going back to the Q School for me because I had a decision to make whether to enter that or not at my age.”
He added, “I still really enjoy the competition side and at Q School I got through in the last chance, played very well in the last event, only lost two frames and since then I have just continued that same form really.”
He did reach the final round qualifying session of the 2012 World Snooker Championship but crashed out at the hands of China’s Liu Chuang by the score line of 10-7. He tried his luck in the 2012 World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) so that he could
get another chance to play in the professional circuit as this season’s Q School carried a two-year pro tour ticket for the eventual winners of the quarter-final stage.
Lawler played impressively in the first Q School event and made his way into the quarter-final stage where he lost to Ian Burns. He tried his luck in the second event of the Q School but failed to reach the second round as he crashed out of the first stage
at the hands of Michael Wild. However, the third round proved to be his lucky stone as he claimed the quarter-final victory and occupied his place in the professional circuit.
