England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan ends Mark Williams’ hopes in Round 2: 2012 Welsh Open
England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan is currently on top of his performance and has shown tremendous improvement in his game especially in the 2012 Welsh Open snooker tournament.
The Rocket has now successfully cruised into the quarter-final stage of the event after beating the local hero, Mark Williams at the Newport Centre arena in Newport, Wales.
Proclaimed to be one of the most talented snooker players, O’Sullivan seems to be back on his track as he has clinched his seventh consecutive major ranking event match win. He played outstandingly against the Welsh potter in the Round 2 encounter and easily
defeated him by the score line of 4-1. Williams had no chance to capitalise against the Essex Exocet and slid three frames down.
Until the first two frames, the match up seemed a tussling encounter as both potters were playing neck and neck. The Wordsley potter, O’Sullivan breezed into 1-0 lead after he pocketed a marvellous century-break of 125 points to win the first scrappy frame.
The Welsh Potting Machine, Williams responded well with a cracking 133-point clearance to claim the second frame and pull level at 1-1.
After that, Williams failed to avail any chance at the table as the 36-year-old O’Sullivan punished him brutally with some extraordinary compilations of 96, 45 and 56 points to win the next three frames and adding another major victory in his tournament
campaign.
“Mark has been very consistent over the past year, but we all have bad days,” O'Sullivan spoke to the World Snooker. “I'm just trying to go out and concentrate and give it my best shot, and I'm enjoying competing.”
The Essex potter added, “I wasn't worried about dropping out of the top 16. No one wants to drop out, but it would have been a challenge to have to qualify for the World Championship and I was looking forward to it in some respects. I never felt as if I
should be ranked 17th or 18th and I had to be patient and wait for the form to come.”
O’Sullivan has now moved into the final stages of the tournament where he will face some of the toughest challenges. His first opponent in the quarter-finals will be the 2011 UK Championship winner, the 22-year-old Judd Trump.
The match up will surely be worth watching as both potters are specialists in their own game.
