England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan targets world title: 2012 World Snooker Championship
Former three-time World Snooker Champion from England, Ronnie O’Sullivan has successfully cruised his way into the second round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
O’Sullivan defeated the former World Snooker Champion and the 2012 China Open winner, compatriot Peter Ebdon in the initial round of the mega event.
The Rocket has played brilliantly in the recent snooker season with impressive victories in important tournaments including the Players Tour Championship (PTC), the Premier League Snooker (PLS) and the 2012 German Masters. Winning the German event boosted
his confidence and he played outstandingly in the remaining events.
On the other hand, during his season campaign O’Sullivan suffered from glandular fever and was not able to play in the 2012 Haikou World Open and the 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals.
Despite pulling out of two important events, O’Sullivan did not lose his form and came back into the season with a better spark.
While speaking to the media, O’Sullivan said, “My attitude was good (against Ebdon). It's been really good all season. Even though I've not been playing great I've not been beating myself up too much if things aren't going right for me.”
The Essex Exocet added, “My game's not brilliant, but at least my mind is allowing me to give 110% and get what I can out of matches, so I'm pleased with that side of things. If I win, then great, but if I don't it's not the be-all-and-end-all.”
The Rocket will be facing the former two-time World Snooker Champion, Wales’ Mark Williams in the second round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. The Wordsley potter has faced the Welsh potting Machine many times during his career and knows all the
strengths and weaknesses.
The second round clash is definitely going to be one of the most thrilling encounters of the mega event as both potters are in good shape.
However, O’Sullivan has more of a chance over Williams because he has been a better performer in the recent season and has won a couple of major tournaments while Williams was not able to score any major title. It will be exciting to see how O’Sullivan builds
some confidence in his game and carries his winning momentum forward.
