England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan trashes Mark Williams in second round of 2012 China Open
After displaying a classy show of tremendous snooker skills against Wales’ Mark Williams, the former three-time World Snooker Champion from England, Ronnie O’Sullivan has secured the quarter-final spot. The Englishman breezed into a superb victory against
the Welshman by the score line of 5-1 in the first round of the 2012 China Open snooker tournament at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena.
The second round clash was expected to be one of the most thrilling encounters but it seemed a piece of cake for the Rocket as he stormed into early lead. Williams was hoping for a close game as he surged into the match after clinching an easy win over the
Chinese potter Jin Long. O’Sullivan, on the other hand, had a close competition against the Scotsman Marcus Campbell.
Despite the fact that O’Sullivan is still suffering from glandular fever, he has been performing well in the current tournament. He is not allowed by his doctor to play any tournament but the love of the game pulled him to China. However, he will face Scotland’s
Stephen Maguire in the quarters. Maguire defeated Ricky Walden of England in the second round by 5-4.
Speaking to the World Snooker after winning over Williams, O’Sullivan said, “All credit to Mark because he's had a great season, he's been in some finals, he's number two in the world. He's one of the top four or five most consistent players on the circuit.
I was just happy to get a win against him today and pleased to get through.”
The Essex Exocet added, “Each match is different. One day you play good, one day you play not so good. Today was a bit better than yesterday. Form is a funny thing, as long as you're playing steady and consistently you give yourself a chance of winning.”
Both O’Sullivan and Maguire have played against each other quite a few times where O’Sullivan was successful in all matches. The Wordsley potter, O’Sullivan faced Maguire last time in the final of 2012 German Masters and defeated him by 9-7. This game will
also produce some fireworks at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena.
