England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan withdraws from 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals – Snooker News
Former three-time World Snooker Champion, England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan has pulled out of the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Grand Finals. The Rocket withdrew from the tournament again due to medical reasons. He was on his way to the Bailey Allen
Hall arena in Galway, Ireland when he felt the after effects of glandular fever and decided to quit the competition.
The Wordsley potter was recovering from glandular fever but he felt the after effects of the sickness during his journey to Ireland and felt a bit dizzy during his flight. His doctor has asked him to take rest because he is not completely fit to play any
match.
Speaking to the media, O’Sullivan’s manager Django Fung said, “Just had a call from a tabloid newspaper asking if Ronnie “had a row” on the plane to Ireland today. No row, he was feeling faint, wanted to sit with a friend because of this and wasn’t allowed.
Decided not to proceed because of his health. Doctor confirms he’s still suffering from the effects of glandular fever. Let’s hope he’s well for China and WSC.”
The Rocket has been suffering from glandular fever for the past six months but the Englishman did not take it into account and continued playing in tournaments. At the moment he lifted the 2012 German Masters snooker tournament at Tempodrom arena in Berlin,
Germany, he was feeling the effects of the fever but still he continued to play.
He went on to participate in the 2012 Welsh Open and played convincingly to hit the semi-final clash against the World Number one, compatriot Mark Selby. Due to the weakness caused by the fever, he was not able to perform well in the semis and tumbled down
by 2-6. After that his condition became worse and he decided to take some rest.
In order to get back into business in the upcoming competitions, O’Sullivan’s doctor advised him to take complete rest so that he can recover from glandular fever quickly. For the sake of his health, the 36-year-old decided to leave the game for a while
so he withdrew from the 2012 Haikou World Open when he was due to play Tom Ford in the first round.
The Englishman’s unavailability in major tournaments due to his health is raising questions again about his decision to quit the game. Previously he has given the hints of his retirement from the game a couple of times during the last season but he came
back. However, O’Sullivan still has a lot to go in the season because in a couple of weeks, the 2012 China Open will commence and after that the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
